In
God's Name explores the nature of cults,
the evolutionary fitness of gullibility, and the
joys of being a part of something, though it doesn't
always work out in the long run.
While
many belief structures may seem ridiculous to
outsiders, it would be tough to beat the doosies
assembled here by filmmaker Kia Simon. Holy John
is waiting for a flood, Hon-Ming for a nuclear
war, and Brother Meade for cement trucks.
Kia
Simon was one of ten filmmakers invited by the
Bumbershoot/One Reel Festival to make a film on
a theme for their 2004 festival. In God's
Name played in an evening of films on the
topic "What in the name of God?"
